Stephen P. Bailey, PT, PhD

Stephen P. Bailey is a professor of Physical Therapy Education at Elon University in Elon, NC. Dr. Bailey serves as the Director of the Human Movement Laboratory at Elon University in the Center for Fitness & Human Movement Studies at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Dr. Bailey is also the Research Director for the Department of Physical Therapy Education at Elon University. He was trained at Wake Forest University (MA in Exercise Science, 1988), the University of South Carolina (PhD in Exercise Science, 1992), and Rutgers University (Postdoctoral in Neuroendocrinology). Dr. Bailey is a licensed physical therapist and formerly directed the pulmonary rehabilitation program at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Dr. Bailey is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and has served as board member for the Southeast Chapter of ACSM.
Over the past 15 years, Dr. Bailey has published numerous articles investigating the impact of prolonged exercise on brain function. Currently, Dr. Bailey focuses on the impact of heat stress and exercise on cognitive function and performance of virtual reality tasks in an urban warfare environment. Dr. Bailey also investigates the use of regular exercise as an adjunctive treatment for substance abuse.
