In an industry first, Wells Fargo's Student Insurance Division and the Sports Concussion Institute (SCI) today launched Play It Safe Concussion Care - a new concussion management treatment and services solution for athletes nationwide. Play It Safe Concussion Care provides concussion medical expense benefits for athletes who sustain a covered head injury. SCI will host the Third Annual National Summit on Concussion and Other Sports Medicine Injuries in Los Angeles, CA on May 15, 2009. This year’s theme reflects cross-cutting and timely presentations and discussions regarding prevention, treatment, management, and the state of the science – emphasizing practical applications for ATC’s and team doc’s from middle school through professional sports -- by the nation’s foremost experts in concussion and orthopedic injuries. May 2009:
In keeping with our ever evolving approach to expand the disciplines related to concussion prevention, treatment, and management, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Ken Mautner has joined SCI as a consulting physiatrist. Dr. Mautner is Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery At Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Read his full bio here .

May 2009:
A world-renown neurosurgeon with excellence in both treatment and research has joined SCI as a consulting neurosurgeon. Dr. Bailes is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery at West Virginia University School of Medicine. Read his full bio here.

April 2009:
SCI and Wells Fargo Student Insurance Services launch an unprecedented alliance that will widely benefit the field of contact sports, from Pee-Wee to semi-Professional leagues. The partnership is Concussion Prevention and Care: A Comprehensive Solution to Concussion Care program to enhance concussion awareness and access to state-of-the-science prevention, treatment, and management through an affordable insurance offering. April 2009:
In the service of neurocognitive prevention and management, SCI is pleased to announce a new partnership with DHA Advantage. DHA Advantage provides a scientifically supported natural source of Omega-3 fatty acid for brain, eye, and heart health. DHA is derived from a vegetarian source (algae) and has been identified as an important brain nutrient that promotes cognitive development and function among both healthy and non-healthy brains.

November 2008:
SCI and Myers-Stevens, and Toohey, & Co. – the nation’s leading broker/administrator providing insurance solutions to a wide variety of clients -- to provide concussion and pain services to athlete populations. Myers-Stevens, and Toohey, & Co. have designated SCI as their Center of Excellence (COE) for all concussion-related injuries within their covered network of over 20,000 insured schools

October 2008:
SCI and AIG partner to develop a tertiary insurance coverage plan, targeted specifically to concussion management treatment and services provided to aid and treat effects of concussion.

August 2008:
SCI and Wells Fargo Insurance Services announce an exclusive partnership designed specifically to provide concussion management solutions for athletes who have sustained a head injury. The goal of the program is to effectively create a systematic solution for athletes to enhance health and medical coverage.

The Sports Concussion Institute is pleased to announce that SCI will be the concussion management team for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Major League and Minor League teams for the 2008 MLB Season. Baseline concussion testing begins in March.

In an unprecedented statement of commitment to athlete safety and well-being, the California Interscholastic Federation has requested that 100,000 high school athletes in the state of California be provided with concussion management services provided by the Sports Concussion Institute.
